Emergency Services Called to Chemical Incident in Cowes on the Isle of Wight

Police, Ambulance and Fire crews have been called to an incident on St Mary’s Road in Cowes this evening. A number of fire appliances have been sent to the scene from both Newport and Cowes fire stations. Part of St Mary’s Road has been cordoned off by police. It is believed that they are dealing with a chemical incident in the Street. A Hazmat officer from Isle of Wight fire and rescue has also been dispatched to the scene. The emergency services were called to the scene just after 7.30pm this evening. An ambulance service spokeswoman said crews were assisting with a number of casualties at the scene she went on to say they had sent a number resources to including a number of paramedics. An Ambulance off has also been sent to the scene. Paramedics have treated three people at the scene so far but the incident is still on going. A spokesman from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said: “We have closed part of St Mary’s Road in Cowes to allow Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to manage a hazardous chemical incident. Police were contacted just after 7pm this evening (Wednesday) by Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. Paramedics were treating a man in his 20s at a house in St Mary’s Road. “Police remain on scene and are in contact with residents. “Please avoid this area of Cowes.”
