A large emergency response is currently underway at Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, East London, after reports that a person is experiencing a mental health crisis on the 9th floor of the car park.
Emergency services, including officers from the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, and London Fire Brigade, were called to the scene on Roundhouse Lane shortly before 7:00pm on Thursday evening (24 April).
It is understood that the individual is threatening to jump, prompting a silent approach by specialist responders trained in crisis negotiation and mental health intervention.
Cordons in Place, Public Urged to Avoid Area
A cordon has been established around the affected level of the multi-storey car park to ensure public safety while officers work to engage with the individual. The Westfield Avenue junction has been identified as the rendezvous point (RVP) for responding units.
A police source at the scene confirmed that efforts are ongoing to safely resolve the situation. “Our priority at this time is the safety and wellbeing of the individual involved,” the spokesperson said. “We ask members of the public to respect the cordons in place and avoid the area while emergency teams carry out their work.”

Witnesses Urged to Show Sensitivity
Shoppers and staff at the busy retail destination were shocked by the incident, with some reporting a visible police presence on social media. Authorities have urged the public not to share images or speculation online out of respect for the person in crisis and their family.
Mental health professionals often remind the public that individuals in distress need compassion, not judgement. In such cases, emergency responders take care to approach with caution to avoid escalating the situation.
