Last year, Stuart Pearson faced a brutal brain injury that nearly claimed his life. After a severe brain bleed, he was rushed for emergency surgery at Southampton General Hospital, following hours of stabilisation at Queen Alexandra Hospital. Doctors feared the worst. But Stuart battled through and made a full recovery — though he still struggles with memory problems and fatigue.
Ultra Marathon: A Tough New Goal
Now, determined to push his limits, Stuart is training to run an ultra marathon — 50km (32 miles) through the New Forest this December. “I’ve run 10-15 miles before, but never a marathon, let alone an ultra,” he admits. The training has already started, and he’s committed to giving it his all, even when tired.
Running for Headway: Supporting Brain Injury Survivors
Stuart is raising funds for Headway – Portsmouth and South East Hampshire, a charity that helps those affected by brain injuries. “When mine happened, it knocked me for six — physically and mentally,” he says. “It’s a horrible thing to go through and takes absolutely ages to recover from, if you’re lucky enough to do so.”
Stuart was fit and healthy before the injury, but it took months before he could return to full-time work or exercise. “Some people don’t get that chance,” he adds.
Help Stuart Make a Difference
Grateful for the support of his loving girlfriend, family, and friends, Stuart knows not everyone is so fortunate. “I want to raise as much as possible for Headway,” he says. “Having people around you at that time is vital.”
If you can spare a little, no matter the amount, Stuart urges you to donate and share his story. Every penny helps those struggling to recover from brain injuries.
