The family of a 74-year-old grandmother brutally stabbed to death by a total stranger as she walked home from Lidl have shared a heartbreaking tribute.
Lorna England was murdered in Exeter in February 2023. The killer, Cameron Davis, had warned hospital staff earlier that day he would “kill a random” person if he wasn’t sectioned.
‘Lovely Lorn’ Remembered with Heartfelt Tribute
At the inquest conclusion, Lorna’s family remembered her as “Lovely Lorn”. Her sister read a statement praising her warmth and kindness.
“Known fondly as ‘Lovely Lorn’ by those close to her, Lorna was a beloved wife of 52 years, mother, grandmother, and sister,” the statement said.
“She was a kind and loving lady who lived life to the full and was the most content person you could ever wish to meet. Her smile lit up the room and her gentle nature made everyone feel welcome and loved.”
“She had a quiet strength and a generous heart; always putting others before herself. Lorna loved family holidays, exercise classes with her daughter, and DIY with her son.”
“She stayed healthy to enjoy special times with her family — something so cruelly stolen from us.”
Killer Warned of Violence Hours Before Attack
Cameron Davis was sentenced to life imprisonment and must serve at least 28 years. Hours before the murder, he was evaluated by mental health staff at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Despite threatening staff he would kill a stranger if released, he was allowed to leave.
Davis had called 999 at 4.41am, threatening to take his own life by setting fire to his accommodation unless arrested. Paramedics found him outside threatening violence.
After being discharged, Davis bought a knife and two bottles of vodka, then lingered in Ludwell Valley Park.
Random Attack Shocks Exeter Community
As Lorna walked home from Lidl aiming to get her 10,000 daily steps, she crossed paths with Davis. He stabbed her in the heart and neck. She died instantly at the scene.
Five hours later, armed police arrested Davis. He reportedly told officers, “I f***ing warned you… the people in the hospital should pay for this.”
At trial, it emerged Davis targeted a random stranger out of anger over losing his accommodation and being denied hospital admission.
