STICKY FINGERS Hungarian Lorry Driver Caught Smuggling £2.9m Worth of Heroin

A Hungarian lorry driver has been jailed for 13 years after trying to smuggle 29kg of heroin into the UK, following a crackdown by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Disappointed Smuggler Wanted Bigger Haul

At Canterbury Crown Court, Tibor Dobos, 54, expressed frustration that he was only caught with 29kg of heroin. The drugs have a street value of around £2.9 million.

Text messages found on his phone revealed Dobos was aiming much higher. He planned to smuggle 60kg, worth a staggering £6 million, hoping for a fatter payday.

Fingerprints and Messages Seal His Fate

Dobos denied involvement, but evidence told a different story. His fingerprints were all over the boxes hiding the heroin, which he had stashed somewhere between Italy and Belgium. He also sent a message confirming he concealed the drugs.

NCA Vows to Keep Fighting Class A Drugs

“Working with partners at home and abroad, the NCA will continue to do everything possible to fight the Class A drugs threat.”
