A 50-year-old man has been handed 21 weeks behind bars after terrorising his neighbours with racial abuse and stalking for over a year. Gary West from Carden Road, near Dick Lane, Bradford, caused havoc in his community starting September 2024.

Harsh Harassment Tactics Revealed

Court heard West’s vile campaign included turning off the electricity and water to his victims’ flat and even sabotaging their door by sticking glue in the keyhole. His twisted vendetta escalated when the neighbours reported him to police.

“The offending escalated and the indictment begins in September 2024 and runs for about a year,” Recorder Simon Kealey KC told West via prison video link.

In a disgustingly sinister move, West left bacon outside the couple’s home — a cruel racial taunt. He also scrawled racial slurs on a fire exit sign. When police were called, they had to force their way into his flat.

Guilty Plea Saves Victims from Court Hassle

West pleaded guilty to racially aggravated stalking earlier this month, sparing his victims from the trauma of testifying in Crown Court. The judge described the behaviour as a “serious piece of offending over a long period.”

West’s campaign included threats, racial abuse, and sending items through the letterbox.

Restraining Order and Move Out Ordered

Recorder Kealey also slapped a five-year restraining order on West to protect his victims from any further harassment. Additionally, West plans to move away from Tyersal, Bradford, once he’s released.

This sentence sends a clear message: racial hatred and stalking won’t be tolerated in our communities.
