Two men have been jailed for firearms offences after police recovered a shotgun during a dramatic police operation in Birmingham.
High-Flying Police Chase Ends with Firearm Seizure
On 21 February, Adnan Haider and Dayyaan Mahmood were spotted inside a car outside a Raymond Road address in Birmingham, holding a gun. West Midlands Police were called alongside the National Police Air Service (NPAS).

After extensive searches and a police helicopter spotting the pair leaving the scene, officers stopped the car. Haider and Mahmood discarded several items before being detained.

Shotgun and Other Items Found After Daring Escape Attempt
Police officers, with help from NPAS and PD Wez, retrieved the discarded items, which included mobile phones, cash, car keys – and crucially, a shotgun.

Both men were arrested and charged with firearms offences, with heat ramping up as the evidence piled up.
Guilty Pleas, Convictions, and Sentences
- Dayyaan Mahmood, 19 from Dereham Close pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and a knife. He was jailed for five years last Friday (10 October).
- Adnan Haider, 21 from Nansen Road pleaded not guilty but was found guilty after a week-long trial. He was convicted of possession of a firearm and a knife, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance. Haider was sentenced to seven years behind bars on the same day.
West Midlands Police confirm the pair are now serving time, a clear warning to anyone thinking of wielding weapons on the streets.
