Southampton City Council has launched an investigation after two individuals were seen BASE jumping from Millbrook Towers. The dramatic incident, captured in a viral video, shows one person leaping from the 240ft tower block and deploying their parachute mid-air.
The event, which occurred on Thursday night, has sparked significant concern among Southampton residents. Millbrook Councillor Jeremy Moulton condemned the actions as “utterly idiotic,” stating, “They are lucky not to have killed themselves or hurt someone else.
The council is urgently investigating how the individuals gained access to the roof of the secure building. Councillor Moulton emphasized the need for increased security measures, stating, “I would ask that the council investigates all of its tower blocks to ensure people can’t get access to the roofs.
A Southampton City Council spokesperson confirmed the investigation, saying, “A full investigation is underway to find out how individuals were able to access a secure area and enter the roof space of one of our properties. We take all cases of trespass seriously and are in discussions with the appropriate authorities to see what further actions need to be taken.”
The video, shared by Kane Sheen on Facebook, has garnered over 1,000 views and sparked more than 300 comments. One commenter humorously noted, “Imagine just seeing someone parachute past your kitchen window after having a smoke.” Another recalled similar incidents from their youth, saying, “I remember lads doing that when we was a kid and got stuck in the tree.
Harry Sheen, 29, witnessed the event. He recounted, “I was sitting out in the field and I heard someone scream and saw two people on the top of the tower. One guy jumped off, landed on the grass, and then the other guy followed.”
Harry added that many in the area, including those on balconies enjoying the evening, were amazed by the scenes unfolding before them. “There were quite a few people in the park at the time. You could see people in the balconies in the block enjoying the evening who then just saw a guy flying off the roof. It all happened so fast.”
As the investigation continues, Southampton City Council aims to ensure such dangerous stunts are not repeated in the future.
