Tanker Hits Fire Truck in Aston on Trent

A fire appliance called out to a car fire was set alight itself when a tanker crashed into this afternoon in Aston-on-Trent on the A50.

Firefighters were putting out the blaze on the A50 Derbyshire, when the lorry hit their fire truck, causing both the appliance and the lorry to ignite.

Fire crew at the scene have escaped serious injury. The Fire truck has bee totally gutted as has the tanker and the road surface has been badly damaged.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire service said the driver of the tanker has been taken to the Royal Derby Hospital with minor injuries following the collision

He said the firefighters involved in the incident were assessed at the scene but were not badly injured.

Police have advised that Road to be closed until early hours after tanker collides with fire engine.
