Chaos at One of Britain’s Busiest Stations

Anthony Andre, 42, caused mayhem after wandering onto the tracks near Clapham Junction on the evening of Tuesday, 10 September. This major railway hub ground to a halt just after 6.30pm when Andre trespassed onto the electrified tracks.

Power Cut to Protect Trespasser Halts Trains

Safety crews had to cut power to the electric railway to keep Andre safe, shutting down trains running through one of London’s busiest areas. The disruption led to 38 trains being delayed or cancelled, creating a whopping 3,427 minutes of travel chaos during the evening rush hour.

Fast Action and Swift Justice

Andre was quickly escorted off the tracks and arrested on the spot. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court just two days later, pleading guilty to trespassing and obstructing the railway. The judge handed him an eight-week prison sentence, and he was remanded in custody immediately.

Commuters will be hoping this hefty punishment is a warning to others thinking of risking lives and throwing Britain’s rail network into turmoil.
