A vicious partner abuser has been locked up after he strangled, punched, and terrorised his victim. Owen Meredith, 27, from Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, was sentenced to two years and one month in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday, 23 January.

Relentless Abuse Exposed

Meredith admitted:

  • Two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour
  • Three assaults causing actual bodily harm
  • Three counts of intentional strangulation
  • One count of stalking causing serious alarm and distress

The terrifying ordeal came to light in November 2022 when the victim bravely spoke out.

From Strangulation to Stalking

Meredith repeatedly strangled and punched his partner. After being arrested and questioned, he was released — only to try hacking into her social media. He also sent her two personalised cards and emailed her, continuing his reign of control and fear.

Police acted fast, gathering the evidence needed to charge Meredith and bring him to justice.

Justice Served with Indefinite Restraining Order

Now behind bars, Meredith has also been slapped with an indefinite restraining order banning any contact with his victim.

“Meredith’s actions were both physically and emotionally damaging to the victim, who has shown immense courage in coming forward and trying to seek help,” said Sergeant Georgia Hughes from the Newcastle-under-Lyme police team. “We are determined to support victims of domestic abuse and to bring perpetrators to justice for their incredibly damaging crimes.”
