Two Afghan Asylum Seekers Charged Over Alleged Rape of 12-Year-Old Girl in Nuneaton

Two Afghan asylum seekers have been charged with the rape, kidnap, and assault of a 12-year-old girl, an incident that has shocked the community in the quiet Warwickshire town of Nuneaton.
Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, is charged with vaginal and oral rape, while Mohammad Kabir, 23, faces charges of aiding and abetting rape, strangulation, and kidnap. Both men remain in custody ahead of their appearances at Warwick Crown Court on 26 August.
Attack in Cheverel Street
The alleged assault took place on Tuesday, 22 July, between 8.30pm and 9.45pm in the Cheverel Street area. CCTV footage from nearby properties shows a man resembling one of the suspects walking with the young victim shortly before the attack.
Warwickshire Police arrested Mulakhil four days after the incident, with Kabir detained later that week.
Police Accused of ‘Suppressing’ Asylum Link
The case has sparked claims of a ‘cover-up’ after it emerged Warwickshire Police advised councillors and officials not to disclose the suspects’ asylum seeker status, allegedly to prevent “inflaming community tensions.
A police source told the Mail on Sunday that authorities were concerned about protests similar to those seen in Epping, Essex, where migrant hotel demonstrations escalated following a separate sexual assault charge involving an asylum seeker.
In response, Warwickshire Police stated:
“Sensitive information around crime locations and offender backgrounds is managed carefully to ensure court proceedings are not prejudiced. Our priority remains supporting the victim and securing justice.”
Serco-Managed Accommodation
Both suspects lived in taxpayer-funded housing, managed by government contractor Serco, just 70 yards apart on adjoining streets in Nuneaton. Serco, which holds a £1.9 billion Home Office contract to house asylum seekers, declined to comment on the specific individuals involved, citing privacy policies.
Neighbours expressed shock at the allegations. One property owner said she was “sickened to the stomach” upon learning of the incident, highlighting a lack of oversight as Serco manages the homes directly.
Political Reaction
Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, criticised the authorities, stating:
“Police and elected officials are acting against the British people by hiding vital information.”
Local councillors from Conservative, Labour, and Reform have also criticised the lack of transparency, claiming they were kept in the dark despite the severity of the case.

Warwickshire Police are continuing their investigation and have appealed for any witnesses who were in the Cheverel Street area between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on 22 July to come forward.
