Emergency services evacuated staff from the Hollingdean bin depot in Brighton this morning (20 August) following a bomb hoax incident.

Workers at the Brighton and Hove City Council site in Upper Hollingbury Road were told to remain at least 50 metres away from the premises until further notice as police carried out safety checks.

Police confirm bomb hoax

Sussex Police later confirmed that the incident was being treated as a hoax.

A spokesperson said:“Police attended an incident at the Brighton and Hove City Council Depot in Upper Hollingbury Road on Wednesday morning (20 August). We carried out an assessment and the incident is being investigated as a bomb hoax.”

Depot reopens as investigations continue

Brighton and Hove City Council confirmed staff were allowed to return to the depot once the site was declared safe. The council also said it would continue to work with police as enquiries progress.

No arrests have been made at this stage.
