A significant woodland fire broke out near Park Lane in Hawkhurst, Cranbrook this evening, prompting a major response from Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Crews were first called to the scene at 6:29pm. Five fire engines and a bulk water carrier were deployed, supported by specialist equipment including beaters, drag rakes, and main water jets.

Firefighters worked for several hours to bring the blaze under control, with the final update issued shortly before midnight.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Firefighters remain on site conducting dampening down operations and monitoring for hotspots.
