Murder Probe Underway After Woman Found Dead on Old Brompton Road

A tense stand-off in a quiet Nottinghamshire village ended with police shooting a knife-wielding man in the chest. The 56-year-old remains in hospital with serious but stable injuries.

Armed Police Called to Ollerton Incident

Armed officers were deployed just after midnight on Monday following reports of a “firearm related incident” on Wellow Road, Ollerton. Bodycam footage revealed the man was holding a knife.

According to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), one officer fired a single shot which struck the man in the chest. He was rushed to hospital and is now in a serious but stable condition.

Two Arrested Over Firearm Suspicion

Police have also arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the incident on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause violence. Both remain in custody.

A large police cordon covers the area around a local caravan park, extending from Wellow Road to Newark Road and Kelsey Avenue. Residents described the scene as unsettling.

“It’s a bit scary. Usually this is a fairly quiet area, but it obviously had to be something serious if the police have been here for so long. It’s to be expected now unfortunately, nowhere is safe.” – Local resident ‘Johnny B’

Chief Constable Reassures Community

Chief Constable Steve Cooper acknowledged local concerns but stressed how rare police shootings are. He said:

“I want to reassure the community that incidents where officers discharge their firearms are incredibly rare. A full investigation is underway and a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct. It’s important the process takes its course.”

Police Watchdog Launches Investigation

The IOPC has now opened a formal investigation into the shooting. Meanwhile, the community remains on edge as officers continue their work at the scene.
