Road users in Nottinghamshire are facing significant disruptions and delays as the A46 remains closed in both directions between the A1 near Winthorpe and the A617 near Newark-on-Trent – UKNIP

The closure is a result of a single-vehicle collision involving a heavy goods vehicle that has overturned and come to rest in the verge, down the embankment.

Nottinghamshire Police and specialist recovery services are currently at the scene, working diligently to clear the area and restore normal traffic flow. The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and allow for the proper investigation and recovery of the vehicle.

To minimize the impact on traffic, diversion routes have been put in place for road users travelling in both the southbound and northbound directions. Southbound drivers are advised to exit the A46 Brownhills junction and join the A1 northbound. They should then take the exit slip road at the North Muskham junction, followed by the first exit off the roundabout onto the B6325, heading south. From there, they can continue over the mini-roundabout in South Muskham and proceed onto the A616 to rejoin the A46 at the Cattle Market roundabout.

For those travelling northbound, the recommended diversion route is to exit the A46 Cattle Market roundabout onto the A616 northbound. At the mini roundabout in South Muskham, drivers should continue north on the B6325. At the grade-separated junction with the A1, they can take the last exit and join the A1 southbound for 3.6km before finally exiting at the Newark junction to rejoin the A46.

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow for extra travel time due to the closure. It is also recommended to consider alternative routes or postpone non-essential travel if possible. National Highways provides further information and updates on the situation through its website at www.trafficengland.com and travel apps, as well as its regional Twitter feed.
