Emergency services are tackling a significant fire at a landfill site on Launders Lane in Rainham this evening (Friday, 18 July), with nearby residents warned to keep windows and doors closed due to smoke.

The London Fire Brigade confirmed it was called to the incident at 6:24pm, with four fire engines and around 25 firefighters currently on scene. Crews from Wennington and surrounding stations have been mobilised.

A 32-metre turntable ladder, acting as a water tower, is being used to douse the flames from above.

The fire involves waste material at the site, generating thick smoke that is spreading across the local area.

Local Advice

A road closure is in effect on Launders Lane, and officials are asking local residents to keep windows and doors shut as a precaution.

Kent Fire & Rescue Service is also assisting in the operation.

There are no reports of injuries at this time, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
