A Birmingham secondary school has issued a stark warning to parents about a dangerous new social media trend pushing kids into organised street brawls.
Parents Urged to Watch Out for ‘School Wars’ Trend
In a letter dated 2 March, E-Act Shenley Academy revealed that pupils from several local schools have been setting up fights outside school gates. While none of these clashes reportedly involved Shenley students directly, the school is working with neighbouring schools and police to nip the problem in the bud.
Senior staff said they are treating the situation “with the utmost seriousness” and have increased communication with other schools to share information and prevent violence.
How ‘School Wars’ Fuels Weekend Showdowns
On platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram, youngsters as young as 11 are urged to join “School Wars” — mass fights between rival schools organised via social media. Videos and images show kids sporting red or blue balaclavas, representing opposing “teams,” with “rounds” set for large-scale brawls.
The school urged parents to talk openly with their kids about social media dangers and to reinforce safe, responsible choices online and offline.
School Threatens Tough Punishments for Fighters
Shenley Academy stressed its top priority is “the safety, well-being and protection of all young people in our community.” Pupils caught up in incidents damaging the school’s reputation face serious consequences, including permanent exclusion.
Assistant Headteacher Mr J C Lea thanked parents for their support and stressed the importance of community effort to keep pupils safe and focused on their studies.
Parents are encouraged to report any information about planned fights to trusted adults at school immediately.
