A 14-year-old girl has died suddenly at a home in Hartlepool, County Durham, prompting an urgent police investigation into the “unexplained” death.
Emergency services were called to the property on the evening of Monday, 5 May 2025, where the young girl was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
Cleveland Police have confirmed that a 55-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident. Both individuals have since been released on bail pending further enquiries.
In a statement, the force said:
“Police have launched an investigation following the sudden death of a 14-year-old girl in Hartlepool on the evening of Monday 5 May.
The girl sadly passed away at home and her death is being treated as unexplained. A 55-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were arrested in connection with her death and later released on bail.
Our thoughts are with the girl’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
The cause of death has not yet been established and a post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out as part of the investigation.
