Police have launched an investigation after a dog was fatally injured in a violent attack in Mountfield Park, Catford, earlier this month.
Officers were called to the scene at 9:13pm on Tuesday, 17 June, following reports that one dog had viciously attacked another. By the time police arrived, the injured dog had sustained critical injuries and was later put down as a result.
Victim Identified as Greyhound Named Juno
A widely shared community poster alleges that the victim was a greyhound named Juno, who had to be euthanised due to the severity of the wounds. The poster described the incident as a “brutal” and “traumatic” attack.
The other dog and its owner reportedly fled the scene, prompting an urgent Met Police investigation to identify those involved.
Police Statement
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“On Tuesday, 17 June at 21:13hrs police were called to reports of a dog attacking another dog at Mountfield Park, SE6.
Officers attended the scene and made enquiries. The dog sadly later died from its injuries as a result of the attack.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries are ongoing to locate and identify the other dog and their owner.”
Witness Appeal
The Met Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information — including CCTV or mobile phone footage — to come forward.
