Woman Arrested in Connection with 40-Year-Old Baby Death Case
Police Arrest Two on Suspicion of Murder After Charred Body Found in Bradford

Northamptonshire Police have arrested a 57-year-old woman in connection with the death of a newborn baby girl more than four decades ago. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was taken into custody on suspicion of murder.

The case dates back to May 1982 when the body of the infant was discovered in Northampton. At the time, a major police investigation was conducted, but no one was ever prosecuted, and the inquiry was eventually closed in 1993.

However, new evidence emerged in 2023 following a cold case review by Northamptonshire Police. This breakthrough led to the arrest of the suspect on Tuesday morning (June 11). She was transported to a location within the county for questioning by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Johnny Campbell, from the Major Crime Team of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit (EMSOU), emphasised the complexity of the investigation. He expressed gratitude to the dozens of officers involved in the operation over the past 48 hours.

The suspect has been released on bail pending further inquiries. Northamptonshire Police have not provided additional comments at this time, as the inquiry remains live and ongoing.
