Quick Action by Fire Crews Save A Basingstoke Church

St Joseph’s Church in Basingstoke has been saved thanks to the work of fire crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue this evening. A fire in the adjacent building spread to the roof of the church but the fast work of fire crews prevented serious damage to the church. The roof has been partially damaged but thankfully no-one was injured. Upon arriving at the scene, crews found the back of a community building was well ablaze and had spread to the roof of the church. Fire crews immediately got to work to prevent the fire from spreading to the church. They were successful in containing the blaze in a near-two hour operation. An investigation into the cause of the fire was set to be launched by the Police and the fire service. It is too early to say whether the fire was deliberately started.
