Monster Sentenced to Life for Horrific Domestic Abuse
Ryan Schofield, 34, from Whiteacre Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, has been locked up for life at Bolton Crown Court. On Thursday 3 April 2025, he received a minimum 13-year sentence for a chilling campaign of domestic violence and sexual offences.
Campaign of Abuse Started Online
The court heard Schofield’s abuse began with online grooming. Between March and October 2022, his behaviour escalated from manipulation to violent physical and sexual assaults, trapping his victim in a terrifying prison of fear.
His arrest followed a breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order linked to a previous conviction. Police found damning evidence on his phone exposing the full scale of his crimes.
Victim’s Bravery Praised by Police
Detective Constable Chris Doran from the Tameside Challenger Team hailed the victim’s courage, saying:
“I would like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case. I cannot begin to imagine her pain and suffering but hope she finds solace in the sentence this monster was handed today.”
DC Doran highlighted the ongoing support offered to survivors, reinforcing Greater Manchester Police’s zero-tolerance approach to domestic abuse.
Greater Manchester Police Lead the Fight Against Domestic Violence
GMP have made leaps in tackling domestic violence and sexual crimes. Recent data shows rape case outcomes doubled from 209 in May 2021 to 426 in May 2024. Meanwhile, domestic abuse offences fell by 13.7% over the last year.
DC Doran reaffirmed GMP’s commitment:
“Greater Manchester Police take domestic violence and sexual offences very seriously, and I would like to highlight this case as an example of our commitment to justice.”
Justice Delivered After Thorough Investigation
The Tameside Challenger Team cracked the case open, revealing Schofield’s predatory nature. His guilty plea secured a life sentence with no parole possibility for at least 13 years.
“Today’s sentencing is a testament to the hard work of our investigation team in bringing Schofield to justice,” said DC Doran.
This case underscores GMP’s relentless effort to protect vulnerable victims from abuse.
