High-speed foot chase ends in arrest

A suspected serial shoplifter was caught red-handed in Chatham thanks to a quick-thinking motorist who helped police during a dramatic foot pursuit last weekend. The drama unfolded on the early evening of Saturday 24 May 2025 after Kent Police received reports of a theft at the BP petrol station on Maidstone Road.

One officer gave chase on foot along Elm Avenue while another flagged down a passing driver. The motorist jumped into action and raced the officer to Wyles Road, where they caught up with the suspect and made the arrest.

Callum Geary faces multiple theft charges

The man in custody was identified as 29-year-old Callum Geary from London Road, Maidstone. He now faces eight theft charges linked to a spate of offences at local shops in Chatham and Maidstone stretching back over seven weeks – from 3 April to 24 May 2025.

Geary was remanded in custody and appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26 May.
