Speedy motorist helps nab suspected serial shoplifter in Chatham
High-speed foot chase ends in arrest
A suspected serial shoplifter was caught red-handed in Chatham thanks to a quick-thinking motorist who helped police during a dramatic foot pursuit last weekend. The drama unfolded on the early evening of Saturday 24 May 2025 after Kent Police received reports of a theft at the BP petrol station on Maidstone Road.
One officer gave chase on foot along Elm Avenue while another flagged down a passing driver. The motorist jumped into action and raced the officer to Wyles Road, where they caught up with the suspect and made the arrest.
