A 38-year-old man has been locked up for the rape and sexual assault of a woman in Elmswell, a crime dating back more than three years.
Harsh Sentence at Ipswich Crown Court
Anwarul Islam, formerly of Springett Avenue, Ringmer in East Sussex, faced sentencing on Friday 21 November at Ipswich Crown Court. He was convicted earlier of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Islam received a nine-year prison sentence for rape and a six-year sentence for sexual assault, to run concurrently. He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole. After release, he will remain on an extended licence while a parole panel assesses the risk he poses to the public.
Attack Details Revealed
The victim, a woman in her 30s, met Islam through a mutual contact via phone. They exchanged voice notes and arranged to meet. The following evening, they visited a public house together.
It was inside the pub that Islam followed the woman into a toilet cubicle and raped her.
