A 38-year-old man has been jailed for the brutal rape and sexual assault of a woman in Elmswell — a chilling crime that happened over three years ago.
Harsh Jail Term at Ipswich Crown Court
Anwarul Islam, once of Springett Avenue, Ringmer, East Sussex, was locked up on Friday 21 November at Ipswich Crown Court. He had been convicted on charges of one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Islam was sentenced to nine years for rape and six years for sexual assault. These sentences run concurrently, meaning he’ll serve nine years total. He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole can be considered. Once released, he will be on extended licence while parole officials assess his risk to the public.
The Shocking Attack in Detail
The victim, a woman in her 30s, met Islam through a mutual contact via phone. They exchanged voice notes and agreed to meet. The next evening, they went to a local pub together.
Inside the pub, Islam followed the woman into a toilet cubicle and carried out the horrific rape.
