Beloved Teen Killed in Late Night Smash
Eighteen-year-old Abbie Devanney has been tragically killed in a crash near Leadgate. The much-loved daughter, sister, and granddaughter died after the blue Ford Fiesta she was a passenger in veered off Brooms Lane around 10pm on Saturday, October 21.
Abbie, a Consett local, was pronounced dead at the scene near the Jolly Drovers pub. Her devastated family described her as a cherished part of their lives and thanked the community for their support while asking for privacy to grieve.
Three Teens Hospitalised After Collision
The crash also left three others badly hurt. A teenage boy and two teenage girls remain in hospital receiving treatment. Their conditions continue to be monitored closely by medics.
Youth Arrested and Released Under Investigation
A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the crash. He has since been questioned and released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Police Appeal for Dash-Cam Footage
Durham Constabulary are asking anyone with dash-cam footage or information about the vehicle involved to get in touch. Witnesses should call 101 quoting incident number 475 of October 21. Help could be crucial in piecing together what happened.
