A police chase ended in a serious crash after a driver failed to stop for officers and ploughed into an ambulance on the M2 near Gillingham.
The incident happened shortly before 9pm on Friday, 29 August, after patrols attempted to pull over a blue Volkswagen Golf suspected of being driven dangerously on the coastbound carriageway near junction 3.
Driver Failed to Stop
When signalled to stop, the driver made off at speed and exited the motorway at junction 4 (A278 Hoath Way). Officers followed, and moments later the Golf collided with an ambulance at a roundabout.
Injuries
Emergency services rushed to the scene. Two female ambulance crew members were injured and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The ambulance was not carrying a patient at the time and was en route to a hospital transfer.
Driver Makes Off and Arrests
It is reported that the driver initially made off from the scene on foot. Shortly afterwards, two men and a teenage boy were detained nearby. They remain under arrest on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and other offences.
