Man Sentenced Over Enniskillen Police Station Terror Plot
Gabriel Meehan, 45, was handed a 30-month jail term at Belfast Crown Court today after pleading guilty to terrorism charges. His crimes were tied to a terror attack on Enniskillen Police Station and the discovery of an improvised firearm in March 2021.
IRA Terror Links and Bomb Threats
The attack was claimed by the Continuity IRA, confirmed the court. Meehan faces release after serving two-thirds of his sentence. Detective Superintendent Griffin, head of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Terrorism Investigation Unit, praised the thorough probe into four bomb threats made in 2021 through media outlets.
Improvised Weapon Found Near Riverside
On March 17, 2021, police found a suspicious object on Lough Shore Path near Riverside. It was an improvised shotgun-type weapon, loaded with a recently fired 12-gauge cartridge. A search of Meehan’s home uncovered more evidence, including photos of the weapon and a phone linked to a British Army member.
Police Urge Public to Stay Vigilant
Meehan was arrested in May 2021 and later admitted to gathering information useful to terrorists. Detective Superintendent Griffin reiterated the unit’s commitment to protecting communities from violence. Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101.
