Man Dies After Brutal Assault at Ilford Station

A 61-year-old man has died following a savage attack at Ilford railway station on Wednesday, 4 December. Police were called just before 9pm after reports of a serious assault. Paramedics, including London’s Air Ambulance, rushed the victim to hospital with severe head injuries, but he later succumbed.

Attacker Arrested and Charged

Ayodele Jamgbadi, 28, from Kingston Road, Ilford, was arrested at the scene. He faces charges of Section 18 grievous bodily harm (GBH), affray, and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon in a private place. With the victim’s death confirmed, detectives plan to upgrade the charges accordingly.

Jamgbadi appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on 6 December and was remanded in custody. His next hearing is set for 7 January 2025 at Inner London Crown Court.

Police Offer Support and Reassurance

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell said, “We have specialist family liaison officers supporting the victim’s family, and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”

“I want to reassure the public this was an isolated incident. The 28-year-old man charged is in custody and we are not looking for anyone else.”

The victim was a Customer Experience Assistant for MTREL. The RMT union expressed devastation over the loss.

Mick Lynch, General Secretary, said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our member, who died following an attack at Ilford station. Our condolences go to their family, friends, and colleagues. RMT will monitor legal proceedings closely and comment further when appropriate.”
