Man Dies After Brutal Attack at Ilford Station
A 61-year-old man has tragically died following a violent assault at Ilford railway station on Wednesday, December 4.
Arrest Made: Suspect in Custody
British Transport Police were called at around 8:49 p.m. after reports of a serious assault. Paramedics, including London’s Air Ambulance, rushed the victim to hospital with severe head injuries. Sadly, he later died.
Officers arrested 28-year-old Ayodele Jamgbadi from Kingston Road, Ilford. He faces charges including Section 18 grievous bodily harm, affray, and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon in a private place.
With the victim’s death, detectives are expected to upgrade the charges. Jamgbadi appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday, December 6, and was remanded in custody. His next hearing is on January 7, 2025, at Inner London Crown Court.
Police Offer Reassurance: No One Else Sought
“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family at this incredibly difficult time,” said Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell.
“This is an isolated incident. A 28-year-old man has been charged and remanded in connection. We are not looking for anyone else.”

Union Mourns Member Killed on Duty
An RMT spokesman confirmed the victim was a Customer Experience Assistant for MTREL assaulted on Wednesday evening at Ilford station.
RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of our member, who died following an attack while at work. The whole union sends its condolences to their family, friends, and colleagues at this awful time. Everyone’s thoughts at RMT are with them.”
