Carer Jailed for Sickening Abuse of Dementia Patient Caught on CCTV

Jenny Dady was handed a six-month prison sentence at Norwich Crown Court on Monday (18 January 2021) after admitting to ill-treating Liz Youngs, a vulnerable 69-year-old suffering from severe dementia.

Shocking Abuse Recorded on Camera

Liz’s daughter, Corrina Cunningham, grew suspicious in summer 2019 after spotting bruises and blisters on her mother’s fragile body. Living together in Barford, Corrina installed a CCTV camera in Liz’s room — clearly visible to anyone entering — to keep an eye on her care.

The footage revealed horrifying scenes. Dady, who was employed to care for Liz, was seen pulling her hair, pushing her knuckles into her face, force-feeding her, and even yanking her up by the nose. She regularly ignored Liz, obsessively using her mobile phone during shifts, and was verbally abusive.

Dog Attack Adds Insult to Injury

On one visit, Dady brought her dog along. The animal scratched Liz, leaving deep cuts on her legs, escalating the physical harm.

Justice at Last – But Tragedy Deepens

After Corrina shared the CCTV evidence with police in November 2019, Dady was arrested and later pled guilty at Norwich Magistrates Court in December 2020. Alongside her jail term, she was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122.

Detective Constable Gemma Weeks said, “Dady abused her position of trust, treating Liz with shocking cruelty. Some footage is deeply distressing, showing a woman left with wet hair and just a towel after a shower for nearly 30 minutes.”

Corrina Cunningham added, “I was mortified. We trusted Jenny, but she betrayed us all. Watching the footage made me physically sick. Mum died during the investigation, so it breaks my heart knowing she suffered in her final year.”

“I urge anyone worried about their loved ones’ care to use cameras. It’s the only way we caught this vile abuse.”
