Stalker Sentenced to Over Seven Years for Arson and Knife Possession
Wyngard’s Terrifying Campaign Ends in Jail
Toraq Wyngard, from Cannon Street, Salford, has been locked up for seven years and seven months at Chester Crown Court for a terrifying campaign of stalking, arson, and knife possession. Between September 18, 2020, and February 11, 2021, Wyngard targeted Mrs Welch, causing her serious alarm and distress.
Set Fire and Found With a Knife
On September 19, 2020, Wyngard broke onto Mrs Welch’s property and set fire to a skip on her driveway. The flames quickly spread to her attached garage. Police caught him nearby and found a knife in his backpack during the search.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
DS 1 Thomason from Cheshire Constabulary’s Harm Reduction Unit said: “Wyngard’s actions were causing Denise great distress and a trial would have further impacted on her, so I’m pleased that he has now pleaded guilty.”
“I’d like to thank Denise for her bravery in coming forward and I hope this reassures other victims that we do listen and take action against those who carry out such distressing crimes in our communities.”
Support for Victims Still Available
The Harm Reduction Unit’s Specialist Victim Advocates have been supporting Mrs Welch and her husband with safety planning and advocacy throughout this ordeal. They are currently assisting several stalking victims across Cheshire with complex cases.
DS Thomason urged others suffering in silence: “We will listen and we will help you get the right support in your case. Don’t suffer in silence, call us on 101 or report it via our website.”
