Plumbing Fraudster Jailed for Targeting Elderly Women
A crafty crook posed as a plumber to sneak into elderly residents’ homes across Newcastle, stealing cash and valuables. Leonard, 53, tricked vulnerable women into trusting him before helping himself to their money.
Quick Police Action Leads to Arrest
After a theft was reported in Queen’s Court, Newcastle, cops launched a rapid social media appeal. Within 24 hours, Leonard was identified and arrested. The thief later stood trial at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, admitting to multiple burglaries committed between February 19 and March 10.
Leonard Caged for Nearly Four Years
On Wednesday, May 11, Leonard of Jubilee View, Newcastle, was locked up for 45 months. Detective Sergeant Dave Lumsden from Northumbria Police said:
“We are pleased to have put Leonard before the courts. His despicable actions targeted vulnerable, elderly women by invading their homes under false pretences. Thanks to the public sharing our appeal, he was caught swiftly and spared his victims the ordeal of a trial.”
Police Urge Caution and Vigilance
Det Sgt Lumsden added a warning:
“Always keep your doors locked and avoid leaving valuables or cash on display. Opportunist criminals look for easy targets. If someone arrives unannounced, ask for ID and don’t feel pressured to let them in. Legitimate workers will understand.”
If you spot anything suspicious, report it via the Northumbria Police website using the ‘Tell us something’ page or call 101.
