Reckless Driver Busted After High-Speed Chase Through Weston-super-Mare
Police Chase Ends in Hiding Spot
Zachary Williams, 28, was arrested on Friday 24 November after a dramatic police pursuit kicked off around 5.40pm. Officers spotted Williams driving a black Citroen C2 on Winterstoke Road — a car suspected to be stolen.
Williams refused to stop for police, prompting a tense chase across Weston-super-Mare. Officers tracked him from the ground while the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter shadowed from above.
After roughly 20 minutes, Williams ditched the car in a Milton residential street and tried to evade capture by hiding in a private garden — but it didn’t save him.
Hundreds Risked as Williams Drove Dangerously
Williams, who hails from Caerphilly, now faces serious charges, including dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
He pleaded guilty to all offences at North Somerset Courthouse on Monday 27 November and was remanded in custody. His sentencing is set for Tuesday 12 December at Bristol Crown Court.
Police Praise Teamwork in Stopping Reckless Motorist
“Williams travelled at excessive speeds during rush-hour across large parts of Weston-super-Mare, including the seafront, in an effort to avoid arrest,” said PC Marcus Cookson.
“Thanks to pursuit-trained officers on the ground and NPAS’ skilled pilots, he was caught and will be sentenced in a couple of weeks after an efficient investigation.”
“It’s good to get another reckless driver off the roads, especially during Road Safety Week when we focus on raising awareness of dangerous driving.”
