Gang Jailed After Staggering Haul of Guns and Grenades Seized in Stretford

Four criminals have been locked up after police smashed a serious organised crime gang in Trafford. Detectives from the Serious and Organised Crime Group (SOCG) swooped on the crew during a crackdown in January 2021.

Explosives, Guns, and Drugs Found in Daring Police Raids

The gang, including Nathan Morgan, 37, Brian Day, 50, Gareth Curtis, 45, and Sarah Tervet, 43, faced up to justice on April 25 at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court. They were caught in a vast conspiracy involving firearms, hand grenades, and a highly lucrative drug trade.

  • Morgan, a key player, plotted to supply cocaine and heroin worth between £50,000 and £100,000.
  • Officers found four grenades, three firearms, and ammunition during raids in Stretford. At Tervet’s home, police uncovered ammunition, a handgun stashed in a cupboard, and two hand grenades.
  • Mobile phones linked the weapons directly back to the gang, revealing frantic messages during the police raids.
  • Forensic tests confirmed the grenades were live with explosive charges capable of causing serious injury or death.
  • Morgan was caught with two live grenades in a rucksack and police seized huge quantities of cocaine, heroin, and cannabis from two Milton Close properties.
  • Day’s home yielded two handguns and evidence of class A drug dealing.

Hefty Prison Sentences for Ruthless Gang

  • Nathan Morgan was jailed for 21 years and 3 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to possess explosives, prohibited weapons, and class A drugs.
  • Gareth Curtis received 10 years and 4 months for similar offences.
  • Sarah Tervet, who pleaded guilty on the first day of trial, was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months.
  • Brian Day got 6 years and 8 months for possession of prohibited weapons and drug supply.

Detective Speaks Out: “Dangerous Weapons Off the Streets”

“Some of the weapons recovered had the potential to be lethal and were held by an organised gang ready to cause harm,” said Detective Inspector Roger Smethurst.

“We know the local community in Stretford was concerned at the time and I hope today’s convictions show our commitment to taking these criminals off the streets.”

“Organised crime operates in the shadows but has a real impact on communities. We rely on public intelligence and urge anyone suspicious to contact us or Crimestoppers.”

This operation dealt a crushing blow to an armed gang peddling drugs and danger across Trafford. The message is clear: crime doesn’t pay when the long arm of the law is closing in.
