Four Gangsters Jailed for Stashing Grenades, Guns, and Drugs in Trafford

Detectives from the Serious and Organised Crime Group (SOCG) and Trafford police have smashed a dangerous gang after a major crackdown. A woman and three men were locked up following an intense probe into their cache of firearms, grenades, and class A and B drugs.

Deadly Cache Found in Stretford Raids

At Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday 25 April, Nathan Morgan, 37, Brian Day, 50, Gareth Curtis, 45, and Sarah Tervet, 43, were sentenced for conspiracy to possess grenades, guns, ammunition, and run large-scale drug operations.

  • Morgan, from Milton Close, was the key player, linked to four grenades, three firearms, and a huge supply of cocaine and heroin worth up to £100,000.
  • Police swooped in late January 2021 with multiple warrants in Stretford, uncovering ammo, a gun hidden in a JD bag, and two deadly hand grenades at Tervet’s address.
  • Mobile phones seized revealed frantic messaging, including text from Curtis saying, “something ain’t right here” during police raids.

Explosive Evidence and Drug Hauls

Forensic tests confirmed the grenades contained live explosives capable of serious injury or death. DNA from Curtis was found on grenades, firearms, and ammo.

During a dramatic arrest on Taylors Road, Stretford, officers recovered two more grenades in a rucksack linked to Morgan, before seizing drugs and cannabis farms across two properties on Milton Close.

Day’s home on the same street yielded two handguns bearing his DNA and evidence of class A drug trafficking.

Heavy Sentences for Gang Members

  • Nathan Morgan copped 21 years and 3 months for conspiracy to possess explosives with intent to kill, possessing prohibited weapons, and large-scale drug supply.
  • Gareth Curtis received 10 years and 4 months for similar explosive and weapons charges.
  • Sarah Tervet pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess weapons and ammunition and was jailed for 4 years and 8 months.
  • Brian Day was sentenced to 6 years and 8 months for weapon possession and class A drug supply conspiracies.

“Some of the weapons we recovered had the potential to be lethal and were in the hands of an organised gang keen to do harm,” said Detective Inspector Roger Smethurst.

“The community in Stretford can be assured that we are committed to putting these dangerous criminals behind bars. Organised crime operates in the shadows, but its impact is real. We urge the public to come forward with any information.”
