Rochdale Man Jailed for Grooming Teenage Girls Across UK
A man from Rochdale has been locked up for a string of sex offences against teenage girls spanning Wales, Greater Manchester, and Northamptonshire.
Undercover Lies Exposed
Back in September 2018, police swooped on a hotel room in Wales after a welfare concern was raised about a 14-year-old girl. Officers found the girl alone with Jordan Scarrott from Badger Close, Rochdale. Scarrott claimed he was only 15, but further checks revealed he was actually 20. That lie kicked off a major investigation.
Social Media Grooming Ring Uncovered
Over six months, Scarrott used a social media app to contact multiple teenage girls. He arranged meetings and engaged in sexual acts with some of them. Police arrested Scarrott who faced a barrage of charges:
- 4 counts of sexual communication with a child
- 4 counts of sexual grooming of a child
- 4 counts of sexual activity with a child aged 13 to 15
- 2 counts of attempting to meet a child under 16 following grooming
- 1 count of inciting a child aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity
Heavily Sentenced for His Crimes
Scarrott pleaded guilty and was slammed with an eight-year, four-month jail term at Minshull Street Crown Court on 28 February 2020.
“Scarrott is a paedophile,” said Detective Chief Inspector Philip Key from GMP Rochdale’s Sunrise team. “Despite knowing his victims were underage, he groomed them to meet and have sex with him.”
“I thank the victims for their bravery and co-operation. Without them, this justice wouldn’t have been possible. Scarrott’s sentence should serve as a warning – Greater Manchester Police won’t tolerate grooming and will act hard to bring offenders down.”
