Drugs smuggler Robert Lane jailed for over three years after £5,000 cannabis stash seized at UK border
Caught red-handed with £5,000 worth of cannabis from the USA
Robert Lane, of Cowl Street, was slammed with a 3-year-and-4-month prison sentence at Taunton Crown Court on Friday 17 March. The offender admitted to importing cocaine and cannabis into the UK. Border Force intercepted a package in December 2020 containing cannabis valued at around £5,000, shipped from the USA.
Linked to cocaine supply in UK
Further investigations uncovered Lane’s involvement in supplying cocaine domestically. He pleaded guilty to two counts of importing class B drugs and being concerned in the supply of both cocaine and cannabis.
Assets seized and drugs destroyed
The court ordered all seized drugs be destroyed and confiscated drug paraphernalia and mobile phones linked to Lane. He now faces a Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) application with 28 days to repay over £5,500 and surrender assets related to his criminal activity.
Police vow to crack down on drug smuggling
PC Mark Hicks said: “We are committed to working tirelessly, alongside partners such as Border Force, to stop people bringing illegal substances into this country and we will always seek to deal with such offenders in Avon and Somerset robustly.”
