Man Charged After Shocking Attacks on Young Women in Ipswich
A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged following two terrifying assaults on young women in Ipswich. The most recent attack happened late on Thursday, 8 December, near Tower Mill Road.
Late Night Assault on River Towpath
At around 11.40pm, a girl in her late teens was walking along the river towpath near Yarmouth Road towards Tower Mill Road when a man suddenly approached her from behind and forced her to the ground.
The attacker fled after a passerby disturbed him. He ran off towards Riverside Road and Sproughton Road.
Second Incident in College Street Courtyard
Police linked the latest attack to an earlier incident on Sunday, 17 October 2021, between 3.10am and 3.20am, in the courtyard of an apartment complex called Foundry, The Mill, on College Street.
A young woman was walking along the waterfront near Stoke Bridge when a man approached her, attempted to start a conversation, then chased her into the courtyard and assaulted her.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
On Thursday, 15 December, officers arrested Adiley Pires of Kensington Road, Ipswich. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Pires now faces five charges including attempted rape, sexual assault, and common assault connected to both the December 2022 and October 2021 attacks.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today.
