Man Arrested After Attempted Kidnap of Teen Girl Near Oakwood Pond
A terrifying attempted kidnapping unfolded near Oakwood Pond, between Upper Park and Fourth Avenue, just before 4.10pm on Wednesday, June 15. A man approached a teenage girl and tried to snatch her – but she fought back and escaped.
Speedy Arrest Follows Incident
Police sprang into action with high-visibility patrols in the area. Their swift work led to the arrest of 29-year-old Luis Palma of Lower Meadow, Harlow, on the morning of June 17. He now faces charges including kidnapping, sexual assault, and cannabis possession.
Upcoming Court Hearing
Palma is set to appear before Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 20.
Police Reassure Local Community
Terry Fisher, interim chief inspector, said:
“I understand that this incident has caused concern in the community, but such incidents are extremely rare, and we believe this was an isolated incident.”
