Man Charged with Manslaughter After 79-Year-Old Dies from Neck Injury in Prudhoe
Serious Assault Leads to Death
At 9.40am on December 10 last year, police were called to a disturbance on Woodhead Road, Prudhoe. Officers found 79-year-old Roy Clayton with a serious neck injury that appeared to be from an assault. Despite medical efforts, Roy sadly died in hospital four days later.
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Following months of investigation, 49-year-old Gary Anderson, also from Woodhead Road, has been charged with manslaughter. He is set to appear before Newcastle magistrates on November 16.
Police Appeal and Family Statement
“This is a serious incident that has left Roy’s family absolutely devastated. Our thoughts remain with them, and we continue to offer all the support they need,” said a Northumbria Police spokesperson.
“We thank Roy’s family and the wider community for their cooperation and patience over the past 10 months. With a suspect charged and court proceedings underway, we urge everyone to avoid speculation on social media or in the community that could affect the case.”
