A 25-year-old Londoner has been arrested and charged after targeting elderly victims at cash machines across Medway and north Kent.
Swift Police Action Nails Suspect Near Dartford
On July 25, just two hours after the latest theft, Kent Police zeroed in on a suspicious Ford Focus near Dartford. The car was stopped close to the A2, and a passenger was promptly taken into custody.
Victims Lied to and Robbed at ATM
At 2:50pm on July 25, officers were called to Cuxton Road, Strood following a report that a 79-year-old woman was distracted at an ATM. The thief snatched her bank card and quickly withdrew cash.
Further investigation uncovered four more elderly victims, aged in their 70s and 80s, who had their bank cards stolen while using ATMs in Gravesend, Strood, and Chatham between July 21 and 25.
Charged: Daniel Baah Faces Multiple Theft and Fraud Counts
Daniel Baah, of Durban Road, Stratford, now faces five counts of theft and ten counts of fraud by false representation for using stolen bank cards to withdraw money. He remains in custody and is set to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on July 27.
