West Midlands Man Guilty of Rape at Bournemouth Beach

Gabriel Marinoaica, 20, from Darlaston in the West Midlands, was found guilty of rape and three counts of sexual assault after a five-day trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Incident in Sea Near Bournemouth Oceanarium

The shocking attack occurred on the afternoon of Sunday, 18 July 2021. The victim, just 15 at the time, was playing with friends in the sea near the Bournemouth Oceanarium. When her ball landed near Marinoaica, she approached him for it. Instead of handing it back, he dragged her deeper into the water until she couldn’t touch the sea floor, then sexually assaulted and raped her.

DNA Evidence Led to Arrest

Police secured a DNA profile and after a detailed investigation, Marinoaica was arrested at his home on 11 June 2022 and charged with the offences.

Detective Praises Victim’s Bravery

“We have carried out extensive and detailed enquiries to identify the culprit for this horrific sexual attack,” said Detective Inspector Mark Jenkins of the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT). “I want to praise the young victim for the courage she has shown throughout the investigation and court process.

“I hope her bravery encourages other sexual offence victims to come forward, knowing they will be supported and offenders brought to justice. I also thank all involved in this complex investigation and the Crown Prosecution Service for securing this conviction.”

Marinoaica is due back in court for sentencing on Friday 19 April 2024.
