Crypto sting terror as thug slashes victim with Rambo knife and throws him in freezing lake
Brutal attack in Neasden Park
Abdi Hassan, 27, of Brent, has been locked up for 14 years, plus a four-year extended licence, after a savage assault in Neasden Recreation Ground. The sentence was handed down at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, 30 October. Hassan was found guilty of grievous bodily harm (GBH), robbery, and possession of an offensive weapon following a trial at Harrow Crown Court in June 2023.
Victim lured by fake crypto deal
The court heard Hassan conspired with two other men to lure a man in his 20s into the park in December 2021. The trio promised to sell him cryptocurrency — but it was a deadly bait-and-switch. Once inside, they attacked, knocking the victim to the ground before Hassan pulled out a terrifying Rambo-style knife. He slashed the man multiple times on his back, arms, and legs, then threw him into the nearby lake in freezing winter conditions.
Police vow to catch all culprits
PC Gulennur Gaygusuz from the North West Command Unit slammed the horrific attack. She said: “This was a particularly violent attack on a defenseless man who was left injured and traumatised after being thrown into freezing water in the middle of winter.”
She added: “Hassan inflicted knife injuries during a sustained attack, causing long-term psychological trauma. Work continues to bring the two other people responsible to justice.”
