Rory Miles Jailed for Rape After 2018 Dunmow Attack
Rory Miles, 32, was found guilty last month of sexually assaulting a woman following a night out in Dunmow on November 10, 2018. The victim managed to escape and call for help, sparking an investigation led by specialist officers from the Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team.
Four Years Behind Bars and Life on Sex Offenders’ Register
Miles, from Harris Green, Dunmow, was charged with multiple offences but found guilty of one count of rape at Chelmsford Crown Court. He received a four-year prison sentence and was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life. Three other charges remain on file as no verdict was reached.
Detective Praises Victim’s Courage and Urges Others to Speak Out
“Firstly I would like to commend the woman involved in this case for her strength and dignity throughout this process and I hope that this verdict will bring some comfort,” said Detective Constable Jon Nottage.
“Miles preyed on a woman who believed she would be safe in his company. He never admitted guilt and claimed the encounter was consensual. The jury saw through this and found him guilty.”
“To anyone affected by sexual violence, I understand how hard it is to come forward. But speak to us – we will support you every step of the way.”
