Alan Edney Jailed for Murder of Kerry Owen
A jury today found Alan Edney guilty of murdering Kerry Owen after a four-week trial at Worcester Crown Court. The 31-year-old will serve a life sentence, with a minimum of 20 years behind bars.
Victim’s Body Found in Shocking Discovery
Kerry Owen, 35, was found dead on 27 May last year in Hopwood’s Wast Hills Lane. A dog walker stumbled across a pool of blood and her body nearby, sparking the police investigation.
Edney’s Brutal Attack and Web of Lies
Edney, from Kenilworth Road, Birmingham, savagely beat Kerry before dumping her body in a ditch, attempting to hide it with grass cuttings. He then lied to Kerry’s family, claiming she died in a hit-and-run and that he had been with her at the hospital and police station.
Police Unravel Deception and Secure Conviction
Detective Chief Inspector Gerry Smith led the probe that exposed Edney’s lies. His investigation used forensic evidence, house-to-house enquiries, and CCTV footage to prove Edney’s guilt.
“Edney tried to cover his tracks instead of calling an ambulance,” said DCI Smith. “He lied to family and police alike. But our thorough investigation uncovered the truth. Justice has been served, and while it can’t undo this horrific crime, I hope Kerry’s family finds some solace today.”
