Saxmundham Burglar Banged Up for Nearly Three Years
Leroy Lawless, 40, from Albion Street in Saxmundham, was slapped with a 33-month jail sentence at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday, 16 November. His crime? A bold burglary earlier this year.
Ladder, Broken Glass & Stolen Goods
On 22 September, Lawless sneaked into a Middleton Road home in Yoxford around 9 pm. Using a ladder to climb through an upstairs window, he made off with a radio and an iPad belonging to the terrified homeowner.
A vigilant neighbour spotted the ladder against the house and alerted the owner. When police arrived, they found smashed glass on the back patio door and an open back door – clear signs of forced entry.
Quick Arrest in Dartford
Later that evening, cops nabbed Lawless in a Dartford car park. They suspected the vehicle he was driving had been used in the break-in. A search turned up the stolen gadgets, a folding lock knife, and two small bags of cannabis. He was promptly charged not only with burglary but also possession of cannabis and driving while disqualified.
Cop’s Verdict
Pc Ian McBrearty from Lowestoft CID said: “Lawless is a prolific offender so to see him behind bars is of great satisfaction. Burglary is an intrusive crime and can cause considerable misery and distress for the victims, so he will have plenty of time to reflect on his actions in jail.”
Lawless will now serve nearly three years behind bars, paying the price for causing havoc in Yoxford.
