Twisted Web of Lies Leads to Five-Year Jail for Falmouth Man
Jamie Tonkin, 23, spun a sick tale to pressure a vulnerable victim into sex acts. The Falmouth man told the victim a girl liked him and would have sex with him—but only if the victim first performed oral sex on Tonkin. The chilling confession landed Tonkin at Truro Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to three charges of forcing a person with a mental disorder into sexual activity.
Deceit, Threats, and Coercion
Prosecutor Piers Norsworthy revealed Tonkin’s dark scheme involved tricking or threatening the victim on four separate occasions to perform oral sex. The abuse only came to light when the victim’s parents uncovered incriminating messages and overheard a phone call where the victim shared the disturbing ordeal with a friend.
Tonkin falsely claimed he was in a sexual relationship with the girl the victim fancied. He told the victim she would only have sex with him if he performed oral sex on Tonkin first. Tonkin even dictated how long the victim must comply and insisted he strip off.
A History of Sexual Offence
On one occasion, Tonkin ejaculated during the abuse and spoke of involving anal sex, though this never happened. He also fed the victim fabricated stories about his sham relationship to manipulate him further.
The court heard Tonkin had a prior caution for sexually assaulting a girl under 13.
Judge Condemns ‘Unique’ Abuse
“The circumstances in this case are unusual, possibly unique,” Judge Simon Carr said. “You created a complex situation to fulfil your own sexual needs by deceiving the victim into believing he could get closer to a girl he liked, only to coerce him into sex acts against his will.”
Tonkin bombarded the victim with hundreds, if not thousands, of messages claiming the girl was willing to have sex if the victim performed acts on him. This manipulation led to the victim reluctantly complying four times.
Justice was served as Tonkin was sentenced to five years behind bars.
